You're going to need to connect the external hard drive to a computer or a NAS adapter. Laptops are meant to move around so I'm guessing you don't want to connect the hard drive to one of them. If you have a desktop computer you can connect the external drive to it and share the drive as shown in the videos. The other option is the NAS or Network Attached Storage adapter. Basically this is a USB to ethernet adapter. You connect your external hard drive to it through USB as usual. On the other side of the adapter is an ethernet port. You attach this side of the adapter to your router using an ethernet cable. The adapter and your drive will show up the same as another computer on your network and you can read and write to the drive from either laptop. Here is an adapter that has been around for a few years. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=usb+nas+adapter&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=1070262079320922842&ei=9V6eTK2BB4Wclgf-593sAg&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CC8Q8wIwAA# Do a Google search for USB NAS adapter for more options.

Fantastic series on creating a Network. Just one question: I have two Laptops with limited HD space, so I don't want to use the HDs for movies or Pictures. How can I share one of those huge 1T External HD, to the network.
